What Little Miss Funeral Wears (when it’s cold outside).

What do female funeral directors wear when they have to conduct funerals? What do they wear when they have to conduct funerals and it’s a little (or a lot, let’s be real) cold outside? Growing up outside of Buffalo, I am no stranger to winters. It’s cold here. It snows a lot here. And unfortunately…we’re used to it. I’m actually convinced that my body has adapted to the cold so well in fact, that if it’s not in the negatives (temperature wise) I think it’s a good day. But the fact still remains; a large portion of my job takes place outside.

I have a large collection of coats. I hope to eventually show all of my ‘funeral’ coats to you folks through this blog. But one that I have been loving recently is this Calvin Klein number that I purchased this year. I love coats that hit below your waist. The longer the better because more of your body is covered for warmth!

Say what you will on my choice of shoes, but unless it is blizzard weather or severely icy outside I still try to wear a boot with a heel. (Short girl problems, whatever). These uggs have been with me for a couple of seasons now and they keep my feet very warm while not looking clunky. Also, I’m not wearing them in my photos, but I recommend getting a pair of leather gloves. I’ve had a few different pairs and my leather ones are still the warmest I’ve found.

When it comes down to it, cold is cold! It’s a constant struggle between looking professional and staying warm. I know my fellow funeral directors who live in snowy areas will agree with me, although the winter can be a beautiful time, maybe it would be a little more beautiful if it didn’t last as long as it does!

These photos were taken by my husband Josiah LeRoy in The United German & French Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY.

What Little Miss Funeral Wears (on Veteran’s Day).

Well, it’s been a while since I posted one of my outfits. I know this because I’ve had short and blonde(ish) hair for about 3 months now. And with one of the last nice weather days left, I figured why not invite you into my closet once again.

I find that these posts are very difficult for me to write because I don’t really know what to say. My style doesn’t change often, however, bits and pieces differ depending on my mood. I wear clothes that make me feel confident and happy. I find that when I feel good about my outfit my work and attitude are better. So I wore a new dress today that’s been hanging in my closet and one of my favorite old pair of boots. And tights because it’s Buffalo and Fall and that’s what we do.

Also, a BIG thank you to all of our veterans and military. And a BIG happy birthday to one of my favorites, my dad!

What Little Miss Funeral Wears (when she works Labor Day).

I’m actually lucky. Because although I did have to meet a family for a prearrangement today, I only worked for about two hours total, so I basically had this holiday off! (Funeral Director win!!)

I own a lot of black clothes. It’s my comfort color. So today, I honestly threw on one of my favorite silk tops with this A-line skirt that I’ve been wearing everywhere. I added a belt that has just a ‘little’ bling and a comfortable pair of flats. Because sometimes, no matter how short you are, you just need to give your feet a rest. And I hope you enjoy the picture of me twirling. Because I had fun twirling.

A friend of mine who works at a local cemetery said that he and one of his co-workers have been trying to guess which cemeteries I take my photos in, so I decided to add that information for you guys. (Also, my husband Josiah LeRoy takes all of the photos.) This is one of my ‘go-to’ cemeteries because, honestly, it’s a minute away from where I live!

What Little Miss Funeral Wears (when she has a busy Saturday).

Just because I’ve been feeling extra good about my outfits this week, I’ve decided to share another little bit of “What Little Miss Funeral Wears”.

Late last night we got a death call, so I already knew I would be making arrangements with a family this morning. I also had to go to the crematory and drop off some paperwork at a local cemetery, so I wanted to wear something that I could move around in easily. Since my favorite  black blazer is currently (still) at the dry cleaners, I wore a little sweater. And you’ll notice my favorite black high heels again. Ladies know what I’m talking about; when you find a shoe that’s cute AND comfortable you tend to over wear them!

It’s hard to tell from the photos, but to spice up my black on black on black outfit I wore a plum color on my nails and lips. And I added a belt. Because why not.

What Little Miss Funeral Wears (when she’s doing office work.)

Today was a quiet day. No new calls came in and I didn’t have any appointments on my calendar, so I basically sat at my desk all day and caught up on some paperwork and filing. I really don’t wear suits unless I’m working a funeral, so today I dressed a little more ‘business casual’ (in my opinion.) But you see, the thing is, even though I wasn’t expecting to meet with anyone, I still have to be ready to. You never know when the phone will ring and a family will want to meet, or when someone will just walk in off the street.

So I put on one of my only pairs of pants that fit me and a colorful top, and paired it with what I refer to as my ‘lazy girl’ blazer. It honestly feels like I’m wearing a sweatshirt! But it still makes me feel presentable and put-together. I also wore these basic black high heels that for some reason I’ve been loving lately. I swear, I haven’t worn these shoes for about two years and I feel as if all of a sudden I wear them everyday.

(Just a side note; I’m aware I need a haircut. It’s coming soon.)

Anyways, I felt comfortable enough to do my office work, but presentable enough to meet with a family. And honestly, I’m just really proud of myself for wearing mustard yellow.

What Little Miss Funeral wears (on a rainy day).

This post is going to be a little different. Because instead of writing about my normal topic of grief and dying, I’m going to talk about something else that’s near and dear to my heart; clothes. I really loved clothes, probably a little too much. But I find outfits so much fun! So I’m going to start a new section of my blog and I’m calling it “What Little Miss Funeral Wears”.

Clothes can be a difficult topic if you’re a female funeral director. I don’t always like to wear suits, mainly because they cost a fortune to dry clean, so I tend to only wear suits for funerals. I’m very lucky because I’m allowed to wear different things at the funeral home I work at, as long as it’s appropriate. Well, what’s appropriate? Hopefully I’ll be able to share some ideas with you guys!

Today there was a wake at the funeral home. So I decided to wear one of my favorite dresses in my closet along with some classic black high heels with a little bow on the toe that adds a girly touch. I tossed on the hat only when I had to go outside (it’s been raining all day).
