A little note, from little miss.
by littlemissfuneral
Five years have gone by in the blink of an eye. That’s how long I’ve been working in a funeral home. As a lot of you know, I landed my first gig in the funeral biz when I was only twenty. If you’re interested, I just wrote an article about it for funeralOne that you can read here. And boy, oh boy, have I learned a lot of lessons.
One of my favorite aspects of being a funeral director are the humbling experiences that I get to be apart of. I get to take part in sacred and intimate exchanges during the funeral. When closing the lid of the casket, I gaze into the face of the deceased, knowing that I am the last one to see the face of this person; knowing full well that I am not worthy of that honor.
The dead body is just a shell. We all know that. But what it represents is so much more. This person saw the world through their eyes. A perception that I will never have. They shook hands and touched the world with their hands. A sensation that I will never feel. They were unique. They were loved. And here I am, the last one to view their face as I gently tuck them away for their final journey.
Humbling. Being a funeral director has helped me to appreciate my life and the people in it. My life is not worth more than another. At the end of the game, the king and pawn go into the same box. And I hope that one day, when a young funeral director is closing the lid of my casket, they realize what an honor it is to have a life where you serve others.

Nicely done. I’m sure I will “steal” your reference to kings and pawns in the future. I hope you don’t mind. RB at https://villageundertaker.wordpress.com/2015/05/09/a-little-note-from-little-miss/
