It is hard and it’s your calling and choice in life. Balance. Without balance you will find it increasingly difficult. You are a talented writer and FD.
it’s good that you care. i firmly believe in doing jobs that matter, that make you care…. may be they shouldn’t be done our entire lives so as to limit the emotional drain.

I hear ya sister. I’m glad to have 3 days to drive my kids to the family farm and relax. I still put an obit in the paper today but I did it from my cell phone.
